Like the folks racing, the street bikes they rode were of equal mishmash background, including Ducati’s, Harley-Davidson’s, Indian’s, Triumph’s and Yamaha’s all lining up in hopes of being No.1. The rules are simple: 750cc and up, production street bike frames, no knobbies, nor front brake. Beyond those guidelines, you’re free to ride what you want. But more often that not, it isn’t about the bike. It’s about the rider.
To prove it, Brad Spencer, at the age of 56, whooped up on the young bucks, including some heavy hitters like Round 1 winner and 2017 SHNC champ, Andy DiBrino, and Moto Beach Classic winner, Frankie Garcia. And he did it aboard a rickety 21-year-old Sportster 1200. The semi-retired carpenter from Gilroy, California notched his first win (K&N Holeshot and Dunlop Dash For Cash winner too) in his second season of competition; proving you don’t need to have the latest and greatest tool in the shed to get the job done.
“There were people right on my butt, but to go slow was to go fast,” told the buttery smooth hammer swinger after the main event. “It’s a fun atmosphere with a great group of guys and gals - I can’t wait to be back at the next one.”
“Hats of to Spencer,” DiBrino added. “That guy is like the Jedi-master. I’m always peeking around at his setup to see what he’s up to.”
Although things may get a tad rowdy on track, it’s the camaraderie, jokes, and fun-loving attitude that keep things balanced and everyone in check. After all, for many racing is only half the fun, with this year’s event also boasting a custom car and bike show— for a complete taste of SoCal flavor. During the action on track, rockers rocked on the stage belting out live music and stiff libations were poured— a sure fire recipe for a good time.

Roland Sands Design and Indian Motorcycle are proud to bring America the “Greatest Show on Dirt”, with the 2018 Super Hooligan National Championship (SHNC).
Hippy Killer Hoedown is Round 2 of our 11 hand selected venues that represent the spirit of hooligan racing and its diversity in riders, bikes and tracks. To include the working man and keep it interesting, we’ll be taking the cumulative score from 9 of the 11 rounds to determine our champion. So if you miss a round, crash or break you’ve still got a shot at winning the SHNC title.
Presenting Sponsor Indian Motorcycles is paying out $1,000 Winner-Takes-All bonus to the winner of the Super Hooligan Main Event. Dunlop tires is the official tire sponsor of the SHNC and have stepped up with $1,000 Dash for Cash races and purse money. K&N Filters and Bell Helmets are also involved in a big way, bringing fat contingency checks to the competitors, rewarding heroic rides and top finishers. K&N also returns with the main event Holeshot Award. We welcome new sponsors Law Tigers who brings some cash to the rider with the biggest get off. Sometimes when you lose you still win! For the series finale, Indian Motorcycle will close the series with another banger of a grand prize, a new, undisclosed Indian motorcycle modified by the crew at Roland Sands Design. Anything is possible, it’s a new season of SHNC racing! And just like the bikes, the venues are a mix and mash, there’s going to be surprises and unexpected outcomes. At the end of the day we just want to get sideways and have a good time, come join us.
